Stability and steering at highway speed
By John
I have a 2011 FLTRU and I went from a Stock 17" wheel to a tubeless spoke 21" wheel. Now at the speed of 65mph or better the steering is super sensitive. Will this up grade fix the problem
Answer QuestionNo, in fact, it might make it worse since you'd be putting more weight on the front end of the bike, which would, in turn, make any steering input even more noticeable. The larger wheel, even if it were lighter, just moved the moment of force further out from the wheel hub. Think of it as more leverage since you have a longer arm on which to pull when making steering adjustments. If you're really concerned about that sensitivity, for your needs, to help eliminate that flighty feeling, I'd recommend a steering damper. You can dial it up to make steering less sensitive at speed, but the downside to that is steering at low speed will also be heavier.
