While you can probably get away with installing this unit by itself, to get the best possible throttle response and engine performance, it's always best to get some sort of fueling modification device. Basically, any time you change the way air gets into or out of, the motor, you'll want to adjust fueling appropriately to maximize any performance gains available from the new setup.
In the case of the 2016 FLRT Freewheeler S&S Mini Teardrop air cleaner kit, we recommend the Vance & Hines FP3 fuel controller as it's simple to use (you only need an iOS or Android smartphone). Adding it to your bike is but a two minute job and it can easily be programmed to work with other common upgrades down the road.
