It performs great. It sounds great. After I installed it, I found out that New York City has a noise level restriction. The S&S cam raises the noise decibel 2 to 3 Decibel past the city limits. S&S should lobby to raise the acceptable noise decibels to allow the S&S 475 cam to be excepted in New York.

Answer QuestionIn the case of the 2019 Harley Davidson FXLR Softail Low Rider, yes, it will indeed work with the OEM valve springs. It's only when you go over the 0.475" valve lift that you get into aftermarket valve spring territory. This cam chest in particular, regardless of the valve lift you choose, is designed specifically to work with the remaining OEM engine components that are not included in the kit.

Answer QuestionAs you'll see, once you select your machine from our fit guide, the biggest cams you can get with this kit have a .475" lift. That'll get you over 100HP, easily, with a proper tune and your bike's current configuration. If you're looking for more power down low, your best bet would be an S&S cam chest kit without cams and then maybe something like an S&S 550 cam to go with it. Again, a proper tune is required if you expect to get the most out of any change in engine configuration.

Will this kit work for the 103? Will I have to change anything else? I want to be able to rip out of the hole and just cruise at times!
Answer QuestionI think you'll find the 2016 Harley Davidson FLHTK Electra Glide Ultra Limited cam chest kit from S&S more than suitable for your needs. Other than a proper tuner, we recommend a Vance & Hines FP4, everything you need to fit this kit to your bike is in the box. Gaskets, assembly lube, all of the parts you'd need are in the box. All you gotta do is follow the included instructions carefully and you'll really appreciate the power this kit has for you!

Answer QuestionGenerally speaking, with Twin Cam engines, if you're bumping valve lift to something greater than .551" then yes, you'll want to add a set of high-performance valve springs to your build. Of course, since this is an S&S kit, we recommend the S&S Valve Spring Kit to go along with it. Those two items together will help you get the most out of that build you've got going and keep up with the reliability aspect that you're looking for.

Answer QuestionIn a word, YES. Regardless of how much valve lift you were to choose, 462" or 475" - when properly tuned, you'll find the engine much more responsive at all power settings and, of course, it'll be more powerful. Choose the .465 kit if you're more interested in cruising over longer distances as it puts most of the bump in power where you'll want it - at cruising speeds. If you're more interested in ripping away from the lights than cruising, choose the .475 kit instead. Either way, again - you'll be glad you did since, no matter what, you'll really wake up that engine!

Answer QuestionYes, absolutely. S&S cam chest kits are designed to work with any exhaust that fits the bike in its stock configuration. These components don't change any of the engine's outside dimensions. Now, if you're asking about performance, that too, won't be an issue. In fact, adding an aftermarket pipe is probably the best thing you can do to get the most out of these engine kits. When tuned correctly, they make good power when matched with a good exhaust!

Answer QuestionThese cam chest kits will certainly work with all of the OEM valvetrain and intake components, with exception to the valve springs themselves in certain circumstances. And that varies based on engine type. If you're putting this in an M8 engine and using a kit with a valve lift greater than .540 in. or a Twin Cam with lift greater than .551 in., then you will need to use high-performance valve springs if you expect the engine to last, or run well at higher RPMs. In other words, so long as the cams aren't too bumpy, yes - these will work with all of the stock Harley-Davidson engine parts and intake components on any machine you select from our fit guide.

Answer QuestionYes, the .465 lift cam for Milwaukee Eight engines are highly recommended for touring applications. S&S refers to that profile as "ideal for touring applications" in their own literature. The reason being: good bumps throughout the entire RPM range without having too aggressive of a profile which could make throttle response at cruising speeds less than ideal. For long-range cruising, yes - go with the .465 Milwaukee Eight Touring cams!

Answer QuestionIt really depends on how much valve lift you choose, and the engine type - Twin Cam or Milwaukee Eight, also play into that. In the case of Milwaukee Eight engines, valve lifts of .540 in. and up require heavy-duty springs. For Twin Cam engines, valve lifts of .551 require heavy-duty valve springs.
