The 509 Touring Cam is designed as a bolt-in, high torque cam. 180 psi cranking compression, no need for compression releases. For 88 CID engines with stock compression ratio. Idle-4500 rpm.
Can be used with stock valve springs.
It's no surprise that the S&S 551 cams for Harley-Davidson bikes have become a favorite with late model riders. The only problem is that, due to the .550" lift, the 551 cams can't be installed in Twin Cam 88 engines without also installing a set of high lift valve springs. That means that the heads would have to come off just to install a cam. That's a lot of work and added expense!
Based on the success of the 551 cams, S&S has come up with 509 bolt-in torque cams that work with stock valve springs in Twin Cam 88 engines. Like the S&S 551 cams, the 509 cams are great for low and midrange torque, but the 509 cam's lower lift allows them to be bolted into stock engines with stock valve springs. That saves a lot of time and money on the installation, which makes the S&S 509 a lot more attractive to owners of older Twin Cam 88 powered bikes.

Put in my 2006 Electra glide ultra classic had 42K miles feels like a new bike also paired it with a dyno jet tuner. Can really feel the torque in the bike now pulling the hills here in the pacific north west.

These are great cams for low to mid range power increase, and a nice lope at idle, but needed a fuel controller (tuner) to make it work right, true duals are next.

It really depends on what you're after. If you're looking for highway cruising performance, these cams are great. In terms of outright performance, (peak horsepower) probably not much. What you're really doing is moving the point of peak power lower in the rev range with the 509 cams when compared to the SE cams you've already got on there. Hence why they're a good choice for highway use. Don't forget, however, that you'll certainly want to adjust fuel delivery to work with these, or any other cams should you decide to make a change.

Assuming it's a Power Commander 3 you're referring to, yes, absolutely. Provided you have a competent dyno shop nearby, you won't have any problem building a map to work with this, or pretty much any other cam profile on the market.

Can I use Stock solid pushrods with this cam ?
Yes, the 509C kit works with stock, or stock-replacement pushrods. Just be sure everything measures up appropriately!

Will the 509 cam work with a stock cam plate on 2000 fxd
Given that the 509 cams are rather mild in terms of lift, yes - they'll work just fine with the OEM FXD Harley-Davidson cam plates.
By randy j
Absolutely, yes. This Harley-Davidson aftermarket cam kit from S&S would be a great match for that particular big bore kit. Just be sure fuel delivery is matched so you get the best possible throttle response and power output from this cam upgrade.

The 509C is going to be a chain driven cam, like stock. The 509G cam will be a gear drive cam. S&S recommends using their adjustable push rods or Quickee push rods when using their cams.

Yes, you could removed the rocker box and arms in order to pull the push rods out to allow room for installation. This kit comes with new bearings for you to install as part of the job.

You do not need a new cam chain. You can simply reuse the cam chain with this kit.

If you would like to get the most out of the addition of those cams, I would recommend a tuner or to have your bike tuned professionally.
