Answer QuestionConsidering the vintage of the bike, it's unsurprising that something electrical is going to fail. On this bike, the stator often fails first, but slowly. That is, voltage output slowly falls off with the rectifier circuit having to work harder and harder to maintain voltage over time. This usually occurs over the span of a few days. After that, the rectifier circuit also fails, so now you've got a bike that's basically running on battery power. And since that battery isn't getting any incoming voltage, that too, doesn't last long! So, once you've got everything tested, you'll likely find stator output to be poor and with that, you probably won't even need to test the regulator/rectifier as that's likely out of spec as well. We always recommend, especially on older machines, that the stator and regulator/rectifier be replaced at the same time.
