Yes, S&S 583GE grid cam kits are designed to work well with an otherwise stock engine for any machine you select from our fit guide. The only exception is if you're fitting this kit to a 1999-2004 Twin Cam engine. For those engines, you'll need to add a set of S&S Valve Springs to your order as the stock springs aren't able to handle the extra lift provided by the cams. Other than that, these kits are specifically engineered to work with the all stock engine components, even the starter motor thanks to the compression release design.

how does this kit eliminate the need for chain tensioners?

The kit completely replaces the cam chain with a set of gears. For this reason, there's no valvetrain lash at all. The front and rear chain tensioners get a set of hydraulic block off plates to go in their place when installing this kit.
