Answer QuestionFor the 1999-2004 model year Twin Cam engines in touring models, any cam with a lift over .510 will require you to change out the stock valve springs for a higher lift spring. This would directly affect your 2002 FLHR. You would have to remove the heads and replace the valve springs and seals. Simply search our store for "S&S Valve Spring Kit 2002 FLHR Road King" and you'll get the springs you need. To do the work properly, you'd also need a top end gasket kit. You can find that in our store by searching for "Cometic EST Top End Kit with MLS Head Gaskets." As far as the power gains, the 570 cams are designed for 88 to 96 CID engines with compression ratios between 9:1 and 10:1. The cam will provide a nice power increase across the entire power band from 3200-5700 rpm. If you are looking for cams you can just throw in without any head-work, you are limited to the the 475, 509 or 510 cams. You can find those in our store by searching these terms: S&S 475G Camshaft Kit S&S 509 Gear Drive Touring Cam Kit S&S 510G Complete Camshaft Kit All three of those cams are more bottom end torque oriented camshafts. 475: A bolt-in replacement cam designed for riders with stock engines that want to eliminate the factory chain drive system, but are not necessarily looking for more power. Does not require tuning. Bolt-in stock 509: Designed as a bolt-in, high torque cam for 1999-'06 models. 180 psi cranking compression, no need for compression releases. For 88 CID engines with stock compression ratio. Idle-4500 rpm. Bolt-in torque. 510: Designed as a bolt-in cam for 88, 95, and 96 CID engines with compression ratios below 9.7:1, it is primarily intended for use with stock, un-ported heads. 3000-5500 rpm. Bolt-in overall.
