does this battery require a breather hose? if not where does any excess fluid go?

All Yuasa YuMicron Batteries will be vented and use a vent hose which is provided in the hardware pack for these batteries. Please note all Yuasa YuMicron batteries are shipped dry, battery acid is sold separately from this style of battery. You can find the correct acid pack for each application by reviewing the Acid Volume in the product overview and searching our store for "WPS Non-Sealed Battery Acid Pack" we have them in 850 cc packs.
It really depends on what machine it is that you have. Simply select your make, year and model from our fit guide that's immediately to the left of the main image on our website. Once you've done that, have a look at the product details that are below the main description. There, you'll see exactly how much acid is required under the Acid Volume column.
