Good pistons! I had to take a little off one skirt to match the weight but they were pretty close to start with, lighter than the HD cast iron Flintstones slugs! , Engine smoother now with these pistons, not that any 1000 HD is smooth! Using these pistons with 24/51 final gearing makes a much more user friendly motorcycle! I went .010 overbore making it 1024 cc, case machine work is required to put 24 teeth on the front sprocket but it is well worth the effort! Both dowel pins must be removed, or at least 1/2 of the top one and the bottom one. HD should have made the 1000 case stock to accept sprockets with 24/25 teeth! But once again HD cheaped it out using old 1957 883 tooling, but remember they were bankrupt and being rescued by AMF executives! Just imagine how many Sportster's they could of sold with proper 24 tooth gearing! Most likely the very low gearing and massive vibrations killed sales on every bike that was test driven first and up to 76 they could of balanced the clutch hub but had chose not to! . It takes a good mechanic to smooth out a Ironhead! . It can be done without major crankshaft balance.
