Answer QuestionFor the engine temperature sensor, you'll need a 3/4" deep socket for the sensor and a 1/2" socket to remove the horn. First, you'll need to pull the horn to get it out of the way. After that pull the boot up that covers the sensor's wire harness. Carefully unplug the wires by gently rocking them back-and-forth while gently tugging them off of the sensor. With that wire out of the way, use the deep 3/4" socket to unscrew the old temperature sensor. It's a tight fit, so if you have a rather large socket set, you may have to find something with thinner walls. Once you have the sensor loose, just remove it by hand. Carefully thread-on the new sensor. As it's a brass fitting, you'll need to be especially careful not to cross-thread it. Finish the job with your 3/4" socket wrench and put it all back together in the reverse order. If you're still unsure as to how to go about installing the sensor, have a look at our selection of Clymer Shop Manuals. There are plenty of illustrations and torque values are given for all critical installs.
