Drill bit angle(s) are critical while installing this plastic handle
By Ed on
This is a good looking handle but it's heavy plastic. The screw holes are susceptible to cross threading, especially if you mess up your drill bit angles. In that case, the holes in your trunk lid might not line up with the holes in the handle. Three of my 4 latch hook screw bosses were broken off so angle guidance was lacking during drilling. I started with a 5/32 bit then went on to the 7/32 recommended in the instructions. With some filing, I finally got it installed and it works well. A much more sturdy setup than the original. While removing my handle one time, one of the gaskets slid off and disappeared. I had to make a new one. You will plug into the two pin white plug but when you're finished, you will still have a white two pin plug available since the supplied wire harness provides a new one. I don't know if a cheaper handle would work OK but I've been told they are available. I thought this one was a bit pricey for what you get.
