Installed it in my 2008 Harley Ultra Classic and ran it for about 50 miles. I turned of the bike and my compensator was making a noise. I think I have to upgrade my compensator.

Too easy! Had my Sportster back on the road in just a few hours. Someone younger could do it in an hour.

I'm a stunt rider and killed the clutch need somthing that will hold burnouts and wheelies for a while the bikes get the piss beat out of it daily what would be my best clutch option?
Answer QuestionIf you're after ultimate durability, go with the carbon clutch kits from Barnett. They're more durable than the Aramid fiber (Kevlar) here. The only drawback is that it does tend to be grippier - that is to say, lever modulation must be absolutely precise, especially if you're mingin' it up everywhere. So, if you're more on the ham-fisted side for clutch control, then the aramid option will be better for you, only it'll be slightly less durable than the carbon kit.

Answer QuestionIf you've got the original clutch basket, pressure plate, &etc., in your machine, then you don't probably need to buy any other parts to fit this in place of the worn out clutch discs. I would, however, recommend a set of clutch springs to go along with your order. You're already in there and have to pull the springs anyway, so why not freshen those up as well?

Answer QuestionBarnett offers similar kits for a multitude of make/models, which is why you see comments or reviews referring to different machines. So long as you choose the correct year/make/model before adding to your cart, you would receive the correct kit for your machine.

my 05 sportster xlc1200 has a fairly tall 1st gear and requires some "slipping" to take off smoothly. Would Kevlar be better or Carbon fiber? I'm elderly and don't require "wheelies" from every stop light. thanks
Answer QuestionIn terms of smoothness, the Kevlar (aramid fiber) friction material is going to provide a smoother uptake than would the same clutch pack using a carbon fiber friction material. The latter requires a little more precision if you expect a smooth launch. That's the tradeoff with carbon fiber, it's more durable, especially if you're hard on the clutch, but at the cost of some tractibilty as it's a rather grippy clutch material. For your particular needs, the Kevlar material is the way to go.

Answer QuestionYes, this clutch kit will indeed fit the 1997 Harley Fat Boy. Just choose the 1997 Harley Davidson FLSTF Softail Fat Boy clutch kit from Barnett in our fit guide, and we guarantee it'll fit your machine's stock clutch without issue!
By Jason
Answer QuestionYes, that's correct - this clutch kit removes the double-riveted clutch plate, aka the Spring Grenade, found in the clutch pack. In that way, you eliminate the problem of the rivets failing wherein the plates start wearing into the clutch basket &etc.
By Hairball
Answer QuestionYes, that's correct - this kit removes the double-riveted clutch plate on your machine so as to provide more surface area for the clutch. In this way, feel is better and they last longer than a stock or OEM design clutch kit.

Answer QuestionThere is no spring plate included with this clutch kit. It only comes with friction plates and steel separator plates. In the event you need a new clutch spring, have a look at our Barnett Heavy-Duty Clutch Springs page. There, you'll be able to purchase the clutch spring should you wish to replace that as well as the friction and steel clutch plates.
By Big Jack
Answer QuestionGenerally speaking yes, Barnett's clutch kits can be run wet or dry. Though, if you're going to run them dry, it doesn't hurt to soak the friction plates in a motorcycle-specific oil so they'll run a little quieter.
By Mark
Does this come with instructions on how to install without the double spring plate
Answer QuestionThere are indeed instructions included in the box that clearly explain how to install the friction and steel clutch plates on your machine. Those instructions also specifically note that you are to remove the double spring plate in order to install the new FLSTC clutch pack.

Answer QuestionBarnett's Kevlar Extra Plate Clutch Kit for Harley-Davidson motorcycles fits straight into the OEM clutch. There's no need to make any modifications or purchase extra Harley clutch parts. Since Barnett's Harley Kevlar clutch plates are thinner than the OEM Harley clutch components, they were able to add an extra friction plate to the kit. In doing so, the extra friction surface adds a great deal of reliability, especially on high-performance Harley clutch kits.
