Answer QuestionYes, as long as you check out for the correct year/model, you should have no problems.

This kit does need a spring plate or the extra do the function ?
Answer QuestionThis particular Sportster clutch kit eliminates the stock riveted steel plate aka "grenade plate." You are to remove that from the clutch pack upon installation of this clutch kit on your machine.

Answer QuestionIt really comes down to the type of riding that you do. If you're a street rider that's mostly cruising - not ripping away from the lights too often, if ever - the Kevlar friction material is a better choice. The carbon fiber clutch plates, while they don't last as long, are better suited to performance riding. That is, ripping out of corners, hard acceleration and overall hooliganism. Yes, it is a compromise in terms of longevity when going for carbon fiber option, but you get a clutch that operates more consistently in that kind of demanding environment.

Answer QuestionYes, we do have this kit available to fit your machine. Just choose the 2007 Harley Davidson XL1200L Sportster 1200 Low Barnett Carbon extra clutch plate kit from our fit guide and we'll send you the proper kit to fit the stock clutch on your machine. We guarantee it!

Answer QuestionYou are to install the extra plate within the clutch kit in the same manner as the OEM clutch pack. Each plate within the kit is slightly thinner than the OEM plates they replace, so there's no special work that has to be done in order to fit this kit to your machine. Since the plates themselves are of a higher grade than stock, their performance isn't affected by this. So, you get the extra plate for more gripping surface and the added benefits of longer life and the capability to handle the extra power on particular engine builds.

Answer QuestionSo long as the clutch spring on your machine is in good condition, it may not be required. No less, while you've got your motor apart, it doesn't hurt to go ahead and replace that as well. As an added benefit, the heavy-duty clutch springs from Barnett will help to extend the longevity of your clutch pack since they tend to reduce slippage more than the stock springs.

Answer QuestionYes, the 1997 FLSTC Barnett extra plate clutch kit is specifically designed to work with EVO motors. So long as you have the stock clutch basket in your machine, you shouldn't have any problem fitting the clutch plates in your bike.

Hoping not. Running it in two of my three like year Sportsters. One just started slipping.
Answer QuestionAll of Barnett's clutch components are designed to work with the oil(s) recommended for use on your particular motorcycle. Mobil 1's V-Twin oil is an API SJ and CF grade motor oil, which is perfectly compatible with Barnett's Harley Davidson Roadster clutch kit. You won't have any problems using this clutch with that oil!
By baltasar
Answer QuestionYou can use any type of oil that's recommended by Harley-Davidson. Since the clutch shares the same oil as the rest of the engine, you'll want to avoid any automotive-specific type of oil that uses friction modifiers. These modifiers will, without a doubt, cause the clutch to slip continuously as the compounds are designed to work in engines that separate their transmission and engine oil reservoirs. For your specific needs. we recommend Motul American Twin Synthetic Blend Motor Oil as it's specifically formulated for American V-twin motorcycles, including the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 oil.

Answer QuestionYes, Barnett's Carbon Extra Plate Clutch Kit comes with steel plates and friction plates. If you need a complete clutch kit that includes clutch springs, we have the Barnett Kevlar Extra Plate Complete Clutch Kit. With that kit, you get friction plates, steel separator plates and clutch springs.

2000 sportster 1200 custom.
Answer QuestionYes, this particular clutch kit from Barnett will indeed fit the stock clutch on the 2000 Sportster 1200 Custom. The extra plate that's included in the kit is designed to eliminate the riveted steel plate that's found in the stock clutch. In doing so, it increases clutch surface area by about 12%. This, in turn, can deliver a better feel at the lever and also, enhance clutch life.
