Progressive Fork Spring Kit

The original progressive rate fork springs soak up the small road bumps, yet are firm enough to absorb the teeth-rattling ones. Spring rates have been chosen to reduce front end "dive" during braking, yet still provide excellent ride comfort. Better yet, Progressive warranties their fork springs for life! Progressive rate fork springs have several advantages over straight rate springs. A progressive rate spring has the advantage of a rising rate resistance to compression. The benefit of this is that the spring can be soft enough at the start of the travel to offer a "plush" ride, yet be firm enough at the end of the travel to soak up the big bumps.

Great springs, great price!

These springs are great. They made our 1300 V-Star Tourer ride so much better. They were easy to install, fit perfectly, and was affordable.

New Progressive springs for my V-star 650

By   on  Verified Purchaser

I put your progressive fork springs into my Yamaha vstar 650 because it wasn't handling well. My factory springs were out of spec. I was very happy with how well the bike is tracking now and the bumps don't hurt as bad! I like this product.

2005 Honda VTX1300S

Excellent upgrade! Improve handling and complete rebuild of my fork tubes.

Progressive Fork Springs

By   on  Verified Purchaser

The springs are a lot better than factory set. I really notice a big difference in the front end.

Great product

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Made the front end better than expected. The instructions were straight to the point very pleased with suspension kit.

Nice Improvement

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Kit contained everything needed to install these springs in the forks and front end suspension was noticeably improved with a smoother ride and less dive when applying the brakes. Only downside is that now my rear shocks feel cheap.

What a difference

By   on  Verified Purchaser

What a difference, should have done this before, ride height is spot on.

Gentleman's Sport Bike

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Handles solidly with better control on straight and curves. Used to ride a 1978 DUCATI 900SS, turned 68 yesterday. Made the BMW into a gentleman's Sport Bike, made it my own. Progressive Springs helped enormously! 1994 BMW R100RT Naked

Thank you

Progressive Fork Springs

I wish I would have ordered them a year ago.

Thank you very much

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Everything worked out real well I just didn't realize how bad my front springs were. Just wish I would've done it two years ago.

Used these in a rebuild. The difference in these and the original springs, which admittedly I think the ATF was original, is night and day. Recommend highly.

New Springs on 2000 Yamaha Vstar 1100

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Just replaced the original springs as part of a full fork rebuild and front tire and it handles like a different bike. I can't compare to original suspension because I believe seals were bad when I bought the bike, resulting in an unusually rough ride. Feels much safer and steady now. The tire was almost 20 years old so that could have been partly responsible for the previously rough ride.

Happy customer!

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Original ones 33 yrs old, weak rebound! New progressive, rebound restored and no air needed. Very happy Goldwing owner!

Spring review

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Installed these on my wife’s 883 iron. To be honest anything would be better than those stock springs. These springs stiffened up the front end and made the ride better. For $100 you can’t beat the upgrade.

My VTX1300C didn't take bumps at all. Always bottoming out so I purchased these spring's and installed them one afternoon. They made all the difference in the world. No more bottoming out. Rides so much better! Great product and a great price. Thanks a lot.

Progressive front fork springs for Gen 1 KLR 650

By   on  Verified Purchaser

Parts Giant got the progressive fork springs to me super quick and customer service was friendly and followed up right away with a question I had. I’m pleased with the progressive springs ride improvement however for my Gen 1 KLR the spacer material was not included although it was called a kit. No huge deal to make my own but had to stop the install and resource spacer material. Quality otherwise was great.

Progressive springs on Honda CBX

By   on

The front end firmed right up, bike rides nice and smooth again.

Progressive Fork Springs

By   on

Easy installation with great instructions included. Probably took me 60 minutes to do put fork legs. My original front fork springs were drooping and totally lost their original rebound. I got these springs, put in new 20w fork oil and everything is operating normal again Greatly improved the ride and rebound of these forks. I highly recommend.

Questions & Answers

Ask Question

Does the come with basic install instructions like how to cut the spacers, direction of the washers and springs during install?

Yes, the kit would include detailed installation instructions showing how long to cut the spacers as well as spring and washer direction.

By Andy
Answer Question

I have a 2018 Harley Breakout FXBR 107, how long do I cut the spacer ? and how much fork oil will I need on each?

In the kit, there will be instructions on how long to cut the spacer as well as how much fork oil will be needed.

By Andy
Answer Question

do the springs come with spacers and washers its not shown in pic?

Yes, that's correct - for most machines, Progressive includes the requisite washers and spacers required to complete the fork spring installation on any machine you select from our fit guide. In rare cases, you will be required to re-use the OEM spacers and washers. Basically, if you're servicing forks that are completely stock, you'll have everything you need to improve the front end on your bike.

Answer Question

for preload cut size for 2001 sportster 1200 custom how long would you recommend?

For maximum performance we highly recommend that the forks be removed thoroughly cleaned, inspected and new fork oil installed with seals. The recommend spacer length from the installation instructions for this model is 2". The longer the spacer the more preload it will add to the spring and vise versa. As far as installation, you can complete this without full disassembly of the forks. All you need to do is remove the top cap and remove the stock spring. The damper tube assembly does not need to be removed to complete this install. You can drain the fork oil through the drain bolt on the lower leg. Follow the instructions for fork oil height and viscosity, it is normally different than the stock HD specs and can depend on your riding style. You can fine tune the damping with different weight oil. Higher number oil for more damping. You would then cut the provided PVC pipe to length to create the desired preload and install the spring taper side down then the spacer followed by the sealing ring and fork cap.

Answer Question

Is the fork spring kit for a 2002 honda vtx 1800c compatible with the 12 inch 412 model heavy-duty shocks for the same motorcycle ?

Yes, this would be an excellent match for the VTX1800C since, in the case of that machine, Progressive didn't see fit to make a heavy-duty fork spring kit for that bike. All you'll need to do when installing the fork springs is cut the included preload spacer tubes to the recommended length as indicated in the instructions. You'll find that, with the front and rear suspension updated with these parts, the bike will ride much better than stock and will feel sure-footed in the corners.

Answer Question

1996 kawasaki vulcan 800, i weigh 175lbs. I would like the front forks stiffer during braking. will these progressive springs help with that? bike only has 10,000 miles on it.

It's precisely during braking that you'll notice an improvement on the front. The progressive-rate springs do an excellent job of firming up as they're compressed. So, for big bumps or braking, they're just the ticket. I'm sure you'll find the springs to be a significant improvement over stock and at your weight, they're perfect for your needs.

Answer Question

I just bought a 2003 Honda VTX 1800 in pristine condition. Like to get more front and rear suspenion travel. I weigh 240. Any sugestions??

Ride mostly solo. Thanks for any feed back. Larry

It sounds like you're looking for suspension that's going to resist bottoming, versus wanting to raise the bike up for additional leg room at stops. In that case, as opposed to taller forks and shocks (a bespoke setup for the front, at the least), all you really need to do is match spring rate to your particular weight. For a 240lbs, rider, Progressive recommends heavy-duty rated springs. Heavy-duty springs really don't make for longer suspension travel, but are significantly more resistant to bottoming, especially when compared to the stock components with a rider at the upper end of of their design criteria (such as yourself). You'll find that the bike handles better in corners as it won't wallow nearly as much, and bigger bumps that would end with a thump taken care of with little notice. If that sounds like the problems you're encountering, you'll need the fork springs associated with your original question and a set of Progressive Heavy-Duty Shocks. While the fork springs themselves aren't offered in a heavy-duty rate for VTX1800 models, the rising rate spring design (resistance becomes greater the more they're compressed) will certainly be a significant improvement over the stock fork springs. And with the heavy-duty shock (choose the longer length), the rear end of the bike will be well sorted as well.

Answer Question

Do they replace the need for air?

With these springs ....do they require air to be added or do they replace the need for air

These springs don't change the way the fork operates, mechanically - they only replace the stock fork springs to improve the ride. If your machine is equipped with forks that are air-adjustable, you will still need to add air to them in order for everything to function properly. To replace the air system within the forks would require a complete Progressive Suspension fork cartridge kit. With that kit, you get everything you need to completely eliminate the air system on your bike, albeit, they're not available for nearly as many bikes as the fork spring kit.

Answer Question

What's the difference in GL800 A and GL1800 Gold Wing?

I want to order Progressive fork springs for my 2010 GL1800 Gold Wing

The only real difference between the two bikes is that the GL1800A is ABS-equipped while the GL1800 uses standard brakes. Both bikes actually share the same front fork tubes, so regardless which model you choose, you'll get the correct front fork springs to fit your bike.

By Staff
Answer Question

is this standard spring or heavy duty

These springs are of the standard rate. We also have Progressive Heavy Duty Fork Spring Kits available on our website. For reference, Progressive Suspension recommends that heavy-duty springs be used for riders who weight more than 220 lbs., or for those that ride two-up and/or with a full load of luggage at least 50% of the time.

By Staff
Answer Question

Will this fit a long wheel base 1973 bmw R75/5?

The BMW R75/5 front forks are identical between the two versions of the R 75/5. In fact, we just had one of each through the garage recently and the only difference we could find, other than the frame itself, is the seat on the long wheel base version is about an inch or so longer. That was it; engine, suspension &etc. were all identical. You should have no problem fitting these BMW R75/G fork springs to your machine.

By Staff
Answer Question

Which is better on '09 Nightster Progressive fork spring replacement, standard or heavy-duty?

Spring rate; standard -vs- heavy-duty, really depends on your weight more than the type of riding you do. If you're less than 220lbs and spend most of your time riding solo, then you should go for the standard rate Sportster Nightster Progressive fork springs. Should you weigh more than that, or you find yourself riding two-up at least 50% of the time, it's recommended that you opt for the heavy-duty fork springs.
